The Hannya Mask:
This embroidered imagery was inspired by the Japanese Noh theater's Hannya mask, which represents the soul of a woman who becomes a demon due to jealousy and obsession. It is usually depicted with horns, large sorowfull eyes and a leering mouth. It is commonly used as a motif to ward off other demons: after all "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned".
